Anton Gill leaving Louisville program

Men's College Basketball, Louisville Cardinals

Louisville sophomore guard Anton Gill will transfer at the end of the semester.

Gill helped lead the Cardinals to the Elite Eight this season, making three field goals in the final six minutes against NC State in the regional semifinal.

"Anton is one of the finest young men that I have had the privilege of coaching the past two years," coach Rick Pitino said in a release. "He is a bright, articulate, hard-working young man that we will miss very much. I agree with his decision and have given him his release to attend any university he desires. He wants to play major minutes and I believe he has a bright future ahead of him. We thank him for his dedication to our team."

The 6-foot-3 guard came into school with a reputation as a prolific outside shooter, ranking No. 48 in the ESPN 100 for the class of 2013.

"I want to thank all of my coaches and teammates for two great years," Gill said in a release. "I really appreciate all of the support I received from everyone. I've talked to my family and will take my time to look at my next step after I finish out this semester. I'm just looking for a fresh start to try something new."

The Raleigh, North Carolina, native averaged 2.5 points this past season.

The news of Gill's transfer comes on the same day that Pitino announced junior forward Montrezl Harrell and sophomore guard Terry Rozier plan to enter the NBA draft.
