Astros' Carlos Gomez ready for AL wild-card game, feels 'really good'

MLB, Houston Astros, New York Yankees

Houston Astros center fielder Carlos Gomez, who missed the final series of the season with a strained left intercostal muscle, said he'll be ready for Tuesday's wild-card game against the New York Yankees.

"Yeah, definitely I'll be ready in New York," Gomez told the Houston Chronicle on Sunday. "You know because, that game means a lot for us. No matter what, I'm going to be ready. That's what we planned, the whole last five days made me feel better so I can be more 100 percent to do my best in New York."

Gomez sat out 13 games between Sept. 13 and Sept. 26 with the injury, and he tweaked it again while making a throw to end last Wednesday's game against Seattle.

"I feel really good," Gomez said. "It's a special moment. I know it's been tough for me because I want to do my best. But here we are. We make the playoffs, I can't explain how good I feel because you know, being in the playoffs it's what we're working for the whole year. And here we are."

Gomez, who was traded from Milwaukee to Houston during the season, has a .255 batting average with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs.
