Mariners scratch Robinson Cano

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano has been scratched from the Seattle Mariners' starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Angels because of tightness and soreness in his hamstring.

The 31-year-old Cano asked manager Lloyd McClendon for the day off after playing all 28 innings in the Mariners' first two games after the All-Star break, a 16-inning loss followed by a 12-inning win.

Willie Bloomquist started at second base for the sixth time this season in place of Cano, who began Sunday batting .335 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 93 games.
