Indians pitchers set strikeout record

MLB, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Indians pitchers have set a major league record for strikeouts in one season.

Corey Kluber recorded the record-breaking number when he struck out Tampa Bay's David DeJesus in the eighth inning Friday night, the Indians' 1,429th K of the season. Cleveland went on to win the game 1-0. 

Detroit's pitchers fanned 1,428 in 2013.

Tampa Bay also can pass the Tigers' mark. By the end of Friday's game, Rays pitchers had combined for 1,419 strikeouts on the season.
