Jonny Gomes agrees with Braves

MLB, Atlanta Braves

Free-agent outfielder Jonny Gomes has reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth $4 million with the Atlanta Braves that includes a vesting option for a second year, the team confirmed Thursday.

Gomes, 34, is a .244 career hitter with 155 home runs over parts of 12 seasons with Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Washington, Oakland and Boston. He has a .485 slugging percentage in 1,494 career at-bats against left-handed pitching.

Atlanta's projected 2015 outfield consists of Nick Markakis in right field, B.J. Upton in center and a platoon of Gomes and Zoilo Almonte in left field. The Braves traded right fielder Jason Heyward to St. Louis and dealt left fielder Justin Upton to San Diego earlier this offseason.
