Robinson Cano loses track of men on base; resulting out squashes rally

MLB, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- Seattle Mariners veteran Robinson Cano apparently lost track of how many men were on base and was an easy out to diffuse a rally against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

The bases were loaded with nobody out in the sixth inning when Kyle Seager bounced a grounder to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who took the easy out at first as a run scored to cut the Dodgers' lead to 5-2.

The next batter, Logan Morrison, walked, and Cano began a leisurely jog toward home plate. Pitcher Paco Rodriguez threw to catcher Yasmani Grandal, who threw to Juan Uribe, who tagged out Cano.

"Robby just thought the bases were loaded," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "Tonight, we got in the way of our talents, there's no question about that."

Seattle did not score again in the inning, as Mike Zunino grounded out to end the inning.

The Mariners went on to lose the game and the three-game interleague series, which the Dodgers swept.
