MLB to hear appeal by Orioles' Brian Matusz on Wednesday

MLB, Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore Orioles reliever Brian Matusz, who was suspended eight games for using a sticky substance on his right arm, will have his appeal heard by Major League Baseball on Wednesday.

Matusz received the suspension Monday after being ejected from a game in Miami on Saturday for having a foreign substance on his right arm. He continues to be available to pitch for the Orioles until the appeal is heard.

Matusz was the second pitcher in a week to be suspended for having a foreign substance on his arm by Joe Garagiola Jr., the MLB senior vice president of standards and on-field operations. Brewers pitcher Will Smith also received an eight-game ban.

Matusz is 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 14 games. He has limited left-handed batters to a .185 batting average.
