          Marlins have fun with 2015 World Series Cubs over Miami prophecy in 'Back to the Future Part II'

          In 1989, when "Back to the Future Part II" came out, the Chicago Cubs had not won a World Series in 81 years and Miami did not have a Major League Baseball franchise.

          So it's no wonder Marty McFly was so surprised when he fast-forwarded to Oct. 21, 2015, and a hologram told him the Cubs had just won the World Series by sweeping Miami, with Old Terry wishing he had "put some money on the Cubbies."

          Well, in case you haven't noticed, it's 2015. And while the Cubs still haven't won a World Series (now at 107 years and counting), Miami does indeed have an MLB team -- and the Marlins have even taken home a pair of World Series titles! (Sorry, Cubs fans.)

          The Marlins also apparently have a marketing staff that knows a good opportunity when they see it. So throughout the season, the team has taken advantage of its famous place in "Back to the Future" lore with a #RewriteTheFuture marketing campaign, and will even donate a portion of the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

          Promotions have included mascot Billy the Marlin riding the sort of hoverboard that 1980s moviemakers were certain would be a reality in 2015.

          And with the fictional 2015 champion Cubs visiting this week, the Marlins declared Tuesday night's game #RewriteTheFuture night.

          Going along with the theme, the club even made some sweet shirts -- complete with the alligator logo from the movie -- declaring Miami as 2015 American League champions.

          The Marlins are, of course, in the National League. So even if the Cubs somehow break their curse this fall -- as a 26-year-old movie once predicted -- it certainly won't come with a sweep of Miami.

          But let's not let such trivial details get in the way of some pretty awesome 1980s nostalgia.
