Braves 1B Freddie Freeman cleared to begin rehab assignment

Two-time All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has missed the Braves' past 29 games with an injured wrist, began a rehabilitation assignment with the Rookie League Gulf Coast team in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, on Friday.

Freeman, 25, was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 23 with a bruised right wrist, which he suffered in a June 17 game against the Boston Red Sox.

He played in at least 147 games in each of his previous four seasons in the majors, including all 162 in 2014.

Freeman is batting .299 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs this season.
