Warren G turns in terrible version of 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame'

Chicago Cubs

Since 1998, when the Chicago Cubs instituted guest conductors to lead the Wrigley Field crowd in singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch, there have been a fair share of memorably awful performances at the ballpark staple. While the team has scaled back on celebrity singers, a new contender for worst rendition has emerged.

Enter Friday's game, with rapper Warren G, best known for the 1994 hit "Regulate," taking the mic. He botched the first line of the song ("take me to the ballgame"), and it went downhill from there. Cubs fans, who were urged to "mount up," were none too pleased with his performance.

He joins the list of such infamous performances including:
-- 1998: Mike Ditka huffing his way through a 20-second rendition of the song after running late to the booth.
-- 2001: Former Bears lineman Steve McMichael taunting umpire Angel Hernandez about a bad call at home plate just before he was about to sing. Hernandez had McMichael ejected from the press box after that.
-- 2003: Ozzy Osbourne mumbling his way through the song in an even more unintelligible manner than when he was speaking on "The Osbournes."
-- 2005: NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon calling the park "Wrigley Stadium" before singing the song.

Here's a compilation of other unfortunate Wrigley Field performances over the years.

Warren G did try to defend himself on Twitter afterward, showing a video of him throwing out the first pitch before the game, which was a lot more successful than his singing.
