Ketel Marte sprains thumb, could go on DL

CINCINNATI -- Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte left in the fifth inning Saturday because of a sprained left thumb.

Seattle's leadoff hitter had an infield single and slid hard while stealing second base off Cincinnati's John Lamb. He also stole third base and was stranded. He went into the dugout during the half-inning and stayed there, with Shawn O'Malley replacing him in the field.

X-rays came back negative.

"We've got to make a decision whether he needs to go on the DL or not," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "He's going to miss a few days."
