Malachi Richardson signs with agent, stays in NBA draft

NBA Draft, NBA, Syracuse Orange

Syracuse Orange freshman Malachi Richardson will keep his name in the NBA draft and not return to school for his sophomore season, he told ESPN.

Richardson has signed with agent Andy Miller of ASM Sports, ending his college eligibility.

"Deciding to stay in the draft was a family decision and they thought it was a great one," Richardson told ESPN. "Doing what was best for me was the most important thing. I am very thankful for Syracuse giving me the opportunity that they did and I am very thankful for the great coaching staff and staff members. I truly loved Syracuse and will forever bleed orange."

Richardson, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds during his one season at Syracuse. He boosted his stock with a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament, going for 23 points and seven rebounds against Virginia in the Elite Eight and then following it up with 17 points against North Carolina in the Final Four.
