Cavs to sign Sasha Kaun; center projected to back up Timofey Mozgov

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a contract with center Sasha Kaun, sources said.

Kaun is expected to sign a two-year deal, with the second year being a player option, sources said.

Kaun, 30, was drafted in the second round by the Cavs in 2008. He has played the last seven seasons with CKSA Moscow after playing at Kansas.

A 7-footer, he averaged 9.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 30 Euroleague games last season.

Kaun has a history with Cavs coach David Blatt, who coached him on the Russian national team. Kaun was on the Russian team in 2012 that won an Olympic bronze.

He projects as a backup to Cavs starter and fellow Russian Timofey Mozgov.
