Michael Kidd-Gilchrist sustained torn labrum in right shoulder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is expected to miss an extended period of time after an MRI revealed he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The team announced that Kidd-Gilchrist would undergo surgery Tuesday night.

On Sunday, the Hornets announced Kidd-Gilchrist had a separated shoulder, but an MRI upon returning to Charlotte confirmed the torn labrum as well.

The Hornets say Kidd-Gilchrist will meet with team orthopedist Dr. Marcus Cook on Tuesday to determine the next steps for recovery and rehabilitation.

Kidd-Gilchrist suffered the injury in Saturday's preseason game at Orlando in the second quarter when he landed on the floor.

Charlotte was 27-28 last season when Kidd-Gilchrist played and 6-21 without him. The Hornets allowed five more points per game when Kidd-Gilchrist did not play in 2014-15.
