Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge scores 18 in return to lineup after 2 missed games

SAN ANTONIO -- Spurs power forward LaMarcus Aldridge made his return to the court in Wednesday night's 88-83 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the AT&T Center.

The club held out Aldridge for its previous two outings due to a sprained left ankle suffered Nov. 20 in a loss at New Orleans.

The 30-year-old turned in a line of 18 points, seven rebounds and a block with 8-for-17 shooting in 35 minutes against the Mavericks.

Aldridge averaged a career-high 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, the team with which he spent the first nine years of his career before signing in July with the Spurs as a free agent.

He averaged more than 20 points per game in each of the previous five seasons and is averaging 15.3 points in his first season with the Spurs.

Aldridge sprained the ankle with 8:56 left in the first quarter at New Orleans, when he stepped on Alonzo Gee's foot after missing a shot.

Aldridge immediately left the game and walked to the locker room to get the ankle taped.

He re-entered the contest in the second quarter and played the rest of the way, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.

David West started the previous two games in Aldridge's place.
