ORLANDO -- San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker was informed about an hour before Wednesday's tipoff against the Orlando Magic that he would be held out because of a sprained left ankle he suffered Tuesday against the Miami Heat.
Parker rolled the ankle after running into a cameraman, but the injury isn't expected to keep him out for a significant amount of time. Parker took part in pregame warm-ups but had been listed as questionable heading into Wednesday's game.
Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina, filling in for head coach Gregg Popovich during the team's pregame news conference, said Parker was testing the ankle with coaches and athletic training staff to see if he could play against the Heat.
Minutes later, when Parker returned to the locker room, he was told by a team official he would be held out.
"I'm not gonna argue anymore," Parker joked immediately after hearing the news.
Parker is averaging 12 points and 5.1 assists per game and shooting 51.6 percent from the field.
The Spurs rallied for a 98-96 win and head into the All-Star break with a 45-8 record.
