Islanders acquire Kennedy, Neuvirth

The New York Islanders made a depth move Monday afternoon, adding forward Tyler Kennedy in a trade with the San Jose Sharks, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

The Islanders also acquired goaltender Michal Neuvirth from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for backup netminder Chad Johnson and a 2016 third-round draft pick, a source confirmed.

Kennedy, 28, has appeared in just 25 games for the Sharks as he has struggled to find a fit with San Jose.

The Islanders, who gave up a conditional pick in the deal, have previously expressed interest in Kennedy, a source told ESPN.com.

Kennedy played six seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins before joining the Sharks in 2013-14.

The Islanders made a smaller trade Monday, sending left wing Cory Conacher to the Vancouver Canucks for center Dustin Jeffrey.

The Sharks also made a separate minor deal, trading center Freddie Hamilton to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Karl Stollery.
