Hampton, Quarles eyed as witnesses

NFL Draft, NFL, South Carolina Gamecocks

Police are seeking to question NFL draft prospects Victor Hampton and Kelcy Quarles as witnesses to an attack at a New York City nightclub on Friday, according to a report.

Another NFL prospect, Chaz Sutton, was stabbed in the left shoulder during an attempted mugging upon leaving the Greenhouse nightclub as part of a separate incident, police said. He was not seriously injured.

All three former University of South Carolina players were in New York City for an ESPN The Magazine photo shoot.

According to a sourced report by the New York Daily News, Hampton and Quarles are wanted for questioning as potential witnesses after Michael Haver, a Brooklyn club promoter, was hit in the face with a hookah -- a single- or multi-stemmed water pipe used for vaporizing and smoking flavored tobacco -- and then beaten by two other men at 3 a.m. Friday morning.

Police said Hampton and Quarles were at the nightclub at the time of the attack.

Haver was sent to the hospital and required surgery for extensive facial injuries, sources told the Daily News.

Hampton and Quarles are projected to be selected in the NFL draft, which begins on May 8.

Hampton, a cornerback, led the Gamecocks with three interceptions and nine pass breakups last season. Quarles, a junior defensive tackle, earned All-SEC honors after finishing with a team-leading 9.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. Sutton, a defensive end, had 34 tackles and three sacks.
