The Atlanta Falcons addressed a position of need with the addition of veteran safety Dwight Lowery while also bringing in depth at cornerback with veteran Josh Wilson.
The terms of the agreements with Lowery and Wilson weren't immediately available, although Wilson's is a one-year deal.
Lowery, originally a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2008, last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has 41 career starts.
The Falcons sorely needed help at safety after restricted free agent Rafael Bush remained with the New Orleans Saints, who matched the Falcons' two-year, $4.5 million offer sheet. Bush was expected to start next to strong safety William Moore. Now, the 5-foot-11, 212-pound Lowery might get that opportunity.
The Falcons had a void at free safety after Thomas DeCoud was released. The only other safeties on the roster prior to Lowery's addition were unproven former seventh-round picks Kemal Ismael and Zeke Motta.
Having Lowery doesn't necessarily mean the Falcons will overlook a safety in the draft.
As for Wilson, he is expected to compete at the nickel back position along with Robert McClain and Javier Arenas. Wilson was a second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 and has 81 career starts.
The Falcons are familiar with Wilson from last year, when running back Steven Jackson barreled over Wilson in the end zone during a matchup at the the Georgia Dome.
