Jeremy Maclin exits practice

NFL, Philadelphia Eagles

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin left Wednesday's rain-soaked practice against the New England Patriots after feeling his left hamstring tighten.

"It's precautionary," Maclin said after the practice session. "My left hamstring grabbed on me a little bit. I shut it down."

Maclin, who tore the ACL in his right knee last year, has pulled himself from certain drills because of discomfort in his legs during camp. Each time, he has said it was for precautionary reasons and returned within a day.

The Eagles and Patriots, who moved practice up to 9 a.m. ET because of the weather, conducted the same practice schedule as on Tuesday. The teams were in a full-squad drill midway through the session when Maclin caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Foles and cursed loudly as he turned back toward the line of scrimmage.

"It grabbed on me," Maclin said. "I knew I wasn't going to practice for the rest of the day. So I was just a little upset from that aspect. I want to go out there and compete, and once it happened, I was going to shut it down for the rest of the day. That's the only reason why."

Maclin was also frustrated because he had two solid days practicing against the Patriots defense. Maclin, who was covered by cornerback Darrelle Revis throughout Tuesday's practice, beat Devin McCourty for the long touchdown pass Wednesday.

"Once you get to that year mark (after suffering the ACL tear), where everything starts clicking again -- I've always felt good, but I feel really good now," Maclin said. "I'm excited about going forward."

Maclin said he hoped to play in Friday night's preseason game against the Patriots.

"It feels all right," he said. "I'm just going to treat it and go from there. It shouldn't be a big deal."
