Sam Baker injures knee, leaves game

HOUSTON --- Atlanta Falcons starting left tackle Sam Baker, who missed a good part of last season with a knee injury, was carted off the field in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans.

The medical staff attended to Baker's right knee as he covered his eyes in obvious pain. Baker could not put pressure on his right leg after he was helped off the ground.

Falcons coach Mike Smith did not provide an update on Baker's status following his team's 32-7 loss.

"We'll have more information in the next 24 hours," Smith said. "And as soon as we do, we'll let you guys know."

Baker had a patella repair in his left knee last season, causing him to miss 12 games.

If the latest injury is serious, rookie right tackle Jake Matthews, the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, could end up on the left side.

Lamar Holmes immediately replaced Baker at left tackle on Saturday night.
