Kyle Orton, Bills agree to 1-year deal

NFL, Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent quarterback Kyle Orton, a source told ESPN.com.

Buffalo was in search of a veteran backup behind struggling starting quarterback EJ Manuel. Earlier this week the Bills signed Jordan Palmer and promptly released him, which paved the way for Orton.

It's been an unpredictable offseason for Orton. He was officially released by the Dallas Cowboys in July before joining Buffalo. Orton started 70 career games with the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and Cowboys.

The Bills will open their regular season Sept. 7 on the road against the Bears.
