JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will miss six to eight weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in the team's 41-10 loss at Washington on Sunday.
Lewis is tied for the team lead with eight catches and has 106 receiving yards through the first two games. His injury leaves the Jaguars with only one healthy tight end on the roster in Mickey Shuler, whom the team claimed off waivers from Atlanta on Aug. 31. Shuler is a second-year player with two career catches.
Clay Harbor, a fifth-year player who caught 24 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with Jacksonville in 2013, suffered a calf injury on July 28 and might finally return to practice this week.
"We just met with the trainers right now 10 minutes before I came down here, so we'll have those discussions [about replacing Lewis]," coach Gus Bradley said. "We've got to look in-house or go somewhere outside [to get help]."
Lewis was hurt on the first play of the third quarter while blocking on a running play. He had scored the Jaguars' only touchdown on a 63-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter and finished with two receptions for 71 yards.
The nine-year veteran had his left foot in a protective boot and was using crutches after the game and at the team facility on Monday.
