Marcedes Lewis to short-term IR

NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars have placed tight end Marcedes Lewis on injured reserve/designated to return because of the high ankle sprain he suffered during the team's 41-10 loss to Washington on Sunday.

Lewis cannot practice for six weeks and is not eligible to return to the active roster until two weeks after that. He is tied for the team lead with eight receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.

To take his spot on the roster, the Jaguars promoted undrafted rookie Marcel Jensen from the practice squad. The Jaguars also have two other tight ends on the roster: Clay Harbor and Mickey Shuler.

Shuler, whom the team claimed off waivers from Atlanta on Aug. 31, is a second-year player with two career catches. Harbor, a fifth-year player who caught 24 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with Jacksonville in 2013, suffered a calf injury on July 28 and might finally return to practice this week.

The Jaguars made several other moves on Tuesday, including cutting right tackle Cameron Bradfield. He had started the first two games in place of injured starter Austin Pasztor (broken hand) and played poorly in the loss to the Redskins, giving up three of the team-record 10 sacks the Jaguars allowed.

Pasztor is expected to return to practice this week with a protective device covering his right hand.

The Jaguars also signed second-year receiver Tavarres King to the active roster from the Carolina Panthers' practice squad and signed rookie right tackle Cody Booth to the practice squad.
