Miffed Cook shoves Davis, apologizes

ST. LOUIS -- Rams tight end Jared Cook's frustration with himself boiled over on the sidelines when he shoved quarterback Austin Davis after a fourth-quarter drop in the end zone.

After the Rams' 34-31 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a despondent Cook said he cleared the air with Davis and took the blame for the drop and the shove.

"I was heated, like anybody else," Cook said. "I feel like I let this game slip through my hands and that's my fault as a man."

Cook had what should have been a 10-yard touchdown slip through his hands with 13 minutes and 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter, leaving the Rams to settle for kicker Greg Zuerlein's 28-yard field goal.

Instead of a 28-20 lead, the Rams took a 24-20 advantage. After Cook shoved Davis, defensive end William Hayes stepped in and yelled at Cook in an attempt to diffuse the situation.

"I'm pretty sure it's a little frustration but you know, we all want to win," Hayes said. "It was just competing and tempers flared up a little. Just to calm the situation down, I just put myself between them. Everything was all right after that."

Davis, who was making just his second NFL start, finished the game 30-of-42 for 327 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 98.0. Coincidentally, Cook proved his favorite target on the day, catching seven passes on nine targets for 75 yards.

After the game, Davis said all was quickly forgiven.

"On the sidelines we were all frustrated, we're trying to kind of keep it together," Davis said. "That stuff happens all the time. We talked, we're fine. I didn't even think twice of it."
