Williams, Cotchery out for Panthers

NFL, Carolina Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers placed starting running back DeAngelo Williams and wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery on the inactive list for Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was the second straight week on the list for Williams, Carolina's all-time leading rusher, since suffering a hamstring injury in practice a week and a half ago. Carolina signed Darrin Reaves off the practice squad on Saturday as insurance.

The Panthers also placed running back Fozzy Whittaker (quad) on the inactive list.

Jonathan Stewart was scheduled to start for Williams. Running back/fullback Mike Tolbert will play after suffering a chest contusion in last week's 24-7 victory over Detroit.

Cotchery suffered a hamstring injury during Thursday's practice. Signed as a free agent from Pittsburgh during the offseason, he had caught four catches in each of the first two games for a combined 78 yards.

Jason Avant, who tweaked his hamstring on Wednesday, will start opposite rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin.
