Jake Locker suffers wrist injury

NFL, Tennessee Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans are awaiting word on Jake Locker's injured right wrist, but coach Ken Whisenhunt said it was bad enough that the quarterback was unable to grip a football after Sunday's game.

Whisenhunt doesn't know precisely when the injury occurred during the Titans' 33-7 loss to Cincinnati. Locker had an MRI taken Monday morning.

"It was after the game (when he couldn't hold a ball)," Whisenhunt said. "I can't speak to where he was in the game ...

"It got bent up under him at some point. He did hit his hand a couple times, that happens during the course of a game. But he did something where he strained part of his wrist on his right hand."

Locker was 17-of-34 for 185 yards and two interceptions against the Bengals, producing a 41.9 passer rating while taking two sacks and running six times for 50 yards.

Locker did not speak to reporters Monday.

The Titans hope to figure out when the wrist injury occurred so they can know if it had a bearing on his throws.

"I neglected to ask him when that happened," Whisenhunt said. "He may not even be able to tell me. I just know that it was sore."

If Locker cannot play Sunday against the Colts in Indianapolis, the Titans would turn to Charlie Whitehurst. Rookie Zach Mettenberger is the Titans' third quarterback.
