Teddy Bridgewater's status uncertain

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings aren't tipping their hand about what they will do with Teddy Bridgewater on Thursday night in Green Bay.

Bridgewater was listed as questionable for the Vikings' game against the Packers at Lambeau Field after he was a limited participant in practice for the first time this week.

The rookie, who sprained his left ankle on a fourth-quarter run Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, said Tuesday he's "much further ahead" of where he was after Sunday's game, adding that his ankle feels "pretty good."

But coach Mike Zimmer said in a SiriusXM radio interview Wednesday that the Vikings would give themselves until Thursday on a Bridgewater decision.

"We will see how Teddy Bridgewater is doing tomorrow," Zimmer said in the interview. "It's a long season, so we don't want to put him at risk."

If Bridgewater is unable to start, Christian Ponder would make his first start of the year against the Packers. The last time the Vikings were in Green Bay for a prime-time game, it was Ponder whose status as the starting quarterback was in doubt; he was declared questionable for a 2013 NFC wild-card game against the Packers only to miss the game with a bruised elbow that left him unable to throw the ball farther than 15 yards.

This time, Ponder could step in for Bridgewater if the Vikings decide not to play the rookie on what is forecast to be a rainy night in Wisconsin.

Bridgewater, who threw for 317 yards in his debut as a starter Sunday, seemed optimistic Tuesday about his chances to play against the Packers but wouldn't put any percentage on it.

Officially, those chances appear to be set at 50-50.
