Patrick Willis (toe) is day to day

NFL, San Francisco 49ers

All-Pro inside linebacker Patrick Willis sat out practice Wednesday after injuring a toe in Monday night's win at the St. Louis Rams.

The San Francisco 49ers did regain the services of cornerback Tramaine Brock, who had not practiced since suffering turf toe in the season opener Sept. 7, as well as right tackle Anthony Davis, who has played in one game after dealing with shoulder, hamstring, knee and ankle issues.

Coach Jim Harbaugh was asked Wednesday whether Willis indeed had a sprained toe, and Harbaugh said, "It's nothing to characterize. We'll evaluate. It's day to day."

Asked then whether he would characterize it as a toe injury, Harbaugh said, "Day to day."

Starting left guard Mike Iupati also did not practice due to a concussion.

Following Monday night's game, Willis limped out of the 49ers' locker room wearing a protective boot on his left foot. He did not want to speculate at the time on his availability for the Sunday night game at the Denver Broncos.

Earlier Wednesday, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported that neither Brock nor rookie defensive back Jimmie Ward, who strained a quadriceps against the Rams, was expected to play in Denver.

With the 49ers preparing to take on Broncos QB Peyton Manning, a total of five Niners DBs are on the injury report.
