Arians wants trade deadline moved

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Like most of the league leading up to Tuesday's trade deadline, the Arizona Cardinals didn't make a deal.

The Cardinals were active, however. Coach Bruce Arians said on SiriusXM Radio on Tuesday night that general manager Steve Keim was taking calls, listening to proposed deals and making calls of his own. Arians believes there wasn't a lot of movement Tuesday because too many teams are still in the postseason hunt.

If the NFL's trade deadline was four weeks later, Arians feels one of those talked-about moves might have taken place.

"It's not like if it were four more weeks, you might be out of it, and you might trade a guy that's in the last year of his contract and you're not going to get anything for," Arians said. "But right now they're still hoping in 25 cities or 28 cities that they're going to the playoffs.

"I would like to see the trade deadline go back a little bit."

Co-host Gil Brandt, former Dallas Cowboys vice president of player personnel, responded that over the years the NFL felt that moving the trade deadline deeper into the season could potentially impact the competitive balance.

Arians agreed.

On Monday, Arians was asked if the he had any luck finding a pass-rusher. Arians said he'd leave that up to Keim.

"Steve and I had talked the last few days about potential things to happen," Arians said Tuesday night. "Nothing really happened."
