Alan Ball out with biceps injury

NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars placed starting cornerback Alan Ball on injured reserve with a biceps injury Wednesday, a move that could mark the end of his tenure with the team.

Ball suffered the injury during the Jaguars' 24-6 victory over Cleveland on Oct. 19 and missed last Sunday's 27-13 loss to Miami. Ball had sought a second opinion on the injury last week and told the Florida Times-Union that he didn't believe the injury was season-ending.

To take his spot on the roster, the Jaguars signed cornerback Tommie Campbell, who was with Tennessee from 2011 to '13 and was waived in final cuts this August. The Titans drafted Campbell in the seventh round in 2011.

Ball has been the Jaguars' best cornerback since he signed a two-year, $1.67 million contract in March 2013, and he will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. He started 15 games last season and the first seven this season and compiled 69 tackles, three interceptions and 17 pass breakups. He led the team with 14 pass breakups in 2013.

Ball played for Dallas from 2007 to '11 and for Houston in 2012 before joining the Jaguars.
