Jadeveon Clowney might not play

NFL, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans could be without outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney again, but it's not his knee that would prevent him from playing.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Friday that it's "not looking good" for Clowney, who is ill, to play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. He added that the team would see how Clowney was doing on Sunday, but as of Friday afternoon it didn't appear he would be ready.

Clowney is listed as questionable on the injury report.

Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft last spring, made his return last weekend against the Titans after missing six games because of a torn meniscus. He was injured in the first half of the Texans' season opener, and had arthroscopic knee surgery on Sept. 8.

It was his second surgery since signing with the Texans. Clowney had a sports hernia repaired in June and missed some time in the preseason with a concussion he suffered in August.

Asked if it was frustrating to have Clowney's status in jeopardy again, O'Brien said it wasn't.

"It's the National Football League," O'Brien said. "Injuries occur. Next guy steps up and plays. It doesn't frustrate me one bit. That's part of the job of the NFL. You have a 53-man roster and you try to build depth at every position. Something happens like that, next guy steps up."

"As it relates to Jadeveon," O'Brien said, "we'll check tomorrow and see how he is and it'll be a game-time decision just like it was last Sunday."
