Cardinals sign veteran Michael Bush

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona Cardinals' running game needs all the help it can get.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals signed veteran running back Michael Bush hoping he can provide a spark for their struggling backfield. Bush hasn't played this season after the Chicago Bears released him on March 10 following a career-low 63 carries for 197 yards as Matt Forte's backup.

Arizona released running back Kerwynn Williams in a corresponding move.

Bush's size -- 6-foot-1, 245 pounds -- gives Arizona a power option behind Andre Ellington, who's averaging 58.9 of Arizona's 78.3 rushing yards per game. He ran for just 24 yards Sunday in Seattle.

The Cardinals' 862 total rushing yards are the second lowest in the league this season.

For his career, Bush has run for 3,250 yards and 29 touchdowns on 809 carries.

Bush played his first four years with the Oakland Raiders, rushing for 2,642 yards and 21 touchdowns. He ran for a career-high 977 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011. He then signed a four-year $14 million contract with the Bears as a free agent. He was scheduled to earn $2.8 million in 2014 to back-up Forte before being released..
