Sources: Jags to hire Greg Olson

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to hire Greg Olson as the team's offensive coordinator on Wednesday, according to two league sources.

Olson spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders after a one-year stint as the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach in Jacksonville under then-coach Mike Mularkey.

The Raiders had the NFL's 32nd-ranked offense -- 32nd in rushing, 26th in passing -- this past season, but rookie quarterback Derek Carr threw for 3,270 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Oakland ranked 23rd in total offense in 2013.

Olson also served as the offensive coordinator in Detroit (2005), St. Louis (2006-07) and in Tampa Bay (2009-11). During the 2006 season the Rams became just the fourth team in NFL history to produce a 4,000-yard passer (Marc Bulger), a 1,500-yard rusher (Steven Jackson), and two 1,000-yard receivers (Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce) in the same season. The Rams' offense ranked sixth in the NFL (fourth in passing) that season.

In three seasons with Tampa Bay, Olson's offenses never finished higher than 19th in total offense, though the 2010 team finished eighth in rushing.

Head coach Gus Bradley and Olson worked together on the Tampa Bay staff in 2008.

The Jaguars have been searching for a replacement for Jedd Fisch since Dec. 30, 2014. Bradley fired Fisch that day for what he said were philosophical differences relating to how much the team asked of rookie quarterback Blake Bortles.

Olson's expected hiring was first reported by the NFL Network.
