Jags hire Greg Olson as OC

The Jacksonville Jaguars officially hired Greg Olson as their new offensive coordinator on Wednesday.

"I'm really excited about the additions of Greg Olson and [defensive coordinator] Doug Marrone to our coaching staff," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said in a team release. "We always talk about wanting a great fit for our team, and that also includes our coaching staff. Both Greg and Doug bring a wealth of experience and both possess the qualities that we want in our organization. Greg is a veteran coach that is very detailed and will work hard to develop our players on the offensive side of the ball."

Olson, who replaces the fired Jedd Fisch, worked with Bradley for one season in Tampa Bay in 2008.

"Gus and I spent a lot of time together over the last week as I learned about his vision and the culture he has established in Jacksonville," Olson said in the team release. "It's easy to see that everybody in the organization is moving in the same direction and committed to getting better. We will work diligently as a staff to develop our players and play to their strengths. I'm looking forward to getting started."

Olson spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders after a one-year stint as the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach in Jacksonville under then-coach Mike Mularkey.

The Raiders had the NFL's worst offense -- 32nd in rushing, 26th in passing -- this past season, but rookie quarterback Derek Carr threw for 3,270 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Oakland ranked 23rd in total offense in 2013.

Olson also served as the offensive coordinator in Detroit (2005), St. Louis (2006-07) and in Tampa Bay (2009-11). During the 2006 season the Rams became just the fourth team in NFL history to produce a 4,000-yard passer (Marc Bulger), a 1,500-yard rusher (Steven Jackson), and two 1,000-yard receivers (Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce) in the same season. The Rams' offense ranked sixth in the NFL (fourth in passing) that season.
