Chiefs re-sign DB Ron Parker

NFL, Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the re-signing of defensive back Ron Parker on Monday. Terms weren't disclosed, but a source told ESPN.com on Saturday that Parker had agreed to a five-year, $30 million deal.

The versatility of Parker, 27, was very helpful to the Chiefs last season.

He started four games at cornerback, filling in for injured regulars. He also started 11 at strong safety in place of Eric Berry, who first had a high-ankle sprain and was later diagnosed with lymphoma.

Parker struggled at times but was perhaps the Chiefs' MVP in a midseason win over the Bills in Buffalo. Parker, playing cornerback, broke up three passes in the end zone on a late Buffalo drive to help the Chiefs preserve a 17-13 lead.

"I am happy we were able to work out a deal with Ron and his agent to keep him in Kansas City," general manager John Dorsey said in a statement. "He is a versatile player with a great attitude that's made a positive impact on both defense and special teams. Right from the beginning of this process, we wanted Ron back in a Chiefs uniform."
