Paul Posluszny, Jaguars agree to contract extension through 2017

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the team through the 2017 season.

News of the extension was first reported by Fox Sports.

The financial terms of the deal were unavailable, but the extension allows the Jaguars to adjust Posluszny's salary-cap figure to make it more reasonable. Posluszny, 30, who agreed to a six-year, $45 million contract in 2011, was scheduled to earn $7.5 million in base salary in 2015 and 2016.

He was scheduled to carry a cap number of $9.5 million in 2015 and $7.5 million in 2016. Those numbers were going to be the second-highest on the team before the extension.

The Jaguars already had the most available cap space before Posluszny's new contract ($32.5 million).

A Pro Bowler in 2013, Posluszny played in just seven games last season due to a torn pectoral muscle.

Posluszny has 653 tackles, nine sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 55 games with the Jaguars. He ranks fifth on the franchise's all-time tackle list. He spent the first four seasons of his career with Buffalo and has 1,063 tackles, 12 sacks, and eight forced fumbles in his career.
