Packers president: 'No interest' in selling Lambeau naming rights

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- One of the loudest ovations Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy received from the crowd of nearly 12,000 at Lambeau Field for the team's annual shareholders meeting Tuesday came when he said naming rights for the iconic stadium would never be sold.

"Now I should say, I'm tying the hands of future leaders of the Packers when I say it will never happen, but I don't think it makes any sense," Murphy said after the meeting. "We have a number of benefits as an organization, but Lambeau Field is right near the top. It would really be a shame if the name was ever changed."

In reality, Murphy is continuing a policy his predecessor, Bob Harlan, put in place when Lambeau Field was renovated in 2003.

It should be noted that all eight spectator entrances to the stadium are sponsored by either regional or national corporations.

Murphy said that he gets approached occasionally by companies interested in buying the Lambeau Field naming rights.

"A couple of years ago, I don't know if it was a consultant or somebody approached me from a large corporation that would be interested in naming rights," Murphy said. "I said thanks, but no thanks. We have no interest."
