Marshawn Lynch set for hearing regarding $75K fine, report says

A new season hasn't quieted an old story regarding Marshawn Lynch.

The Seattle Seahawks running back, no stranger to being penalized for not talking to the media, was fined $75,000 for his silence following the team's NFC Championship Game win against the Green Bay Packers last season, Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday.

It is the second fine for Lynch from that game; he also was levied a $20,000 penalty for making an obscene gesture after scoring a touchdown against the Packers. The league did not specify what the gesture was, but Lynch grabbed his crotch after scoring a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

At the time, an NFL official told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Lynch also could be fined for not speaking to the media and that it could be "significantly more" than the $50,000 it had fined him in each of the past two seasons for such an offense.

Pro Football Talk, citing a source, reported Tuesday that the fine indeed was higher, a $75,000 hit that adds to a growing list Lynch has accrued during his career. News of the fine took a while to surface, according to the website, because the NFL just notified Lynch on Tuesday that he will have a hearing about it Thursday.

A league source confirmed the date of the meeting to ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Lynch was fined $50,000 for not talking to the media last November and had another $50,000 withheld by the league from the 2013 season that was contingent upon his future cooperation with the media.

His media silence was one of the biggest topics during the run-up to Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots. On media day, he answered every question with some variation of "I'm just here so I won't get fined."
