NFL hits up Michael Bennett for $17K

NFL, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs

Earlier this week, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett made it clear that he thinks quarterbacks complain too much about getting hit and receive too much money for mediocre results.

Now he is being asked to return some of his own paycheck.

Bennett has been fined $17,363 for striking Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith in the head and neck area during last week's preseason game, a league source confirmed. USA Today first reported the fine.

The hit occurred on the Chiefs' first offensive play from scrimmage, and Bennett was flagged for a roughing the passer penalty.

Bennett will have the opportunity to appeal the fine.
