Source: Vikings cut TE Brandon Bostick, 2015 NFC title game goat

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tight end Brandon Bostick, whom the Minnesota Vikings claimed off waivers in February after the Green Bay Packers released him, will have to turn to a new team to put distance between himself and his gaffe in the 2015 NFC title game.

The Vikings released Bostick in their first round of cuts on Sunday, according to a league source, as they made an initial wave of moves before Tuesday's deadline to get down to 75 players.

The team also released running back Joe Banyard, according to the source, and reportedly parted ways with wide receiver DaVaris Daniels and cornerback Demarcus Van Dyke.

Those four cuts mean the Vikings have 10 more players to release before Tuesday evening.

Bostick, who was let go by the Packers in February, became known for his mistake in the NFC Championship Game, when he bobbled an onside kick that helped the Seattle Seahawks rally from a 19-7 deficit in the game's final four minutes. The Packers had planned for wide receiver Jordy Nelson to recover the onside kick, but instead of blocking for Nelson, Bostick tried to field the ball, which bounced off his face mask. The Seahawks recovered with 2:07 left, went on to score the go-ahead touchdown and eventually prevailed in overtime.

Bostick, who was buried on the Vikings' depth chart, caught only one pass for 4 yards in Minnesota's first four preseason games.
