T.Y. Hilton expected to complete protocol Thursday

NFL, Indianapolis Colts

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts Pro Bowl receiver T.Y. Hilton is going through the league's concussion protocol, coach Chuck Pagano said Monday.

He is expected to complete it Thursday, and the expectation is that he will be cleared, a source tells ESPN's Britt McHenry.

Pagano said Hilton came in complaining of a headache after Saturday's preseason game at St. Louis.

Players who are diagnosed with concussions have to go through a mandatory process that includes observation, comparison to preseason baseline cognitive evaluation and physical exertion.

Hilton will have to be cleared by the team doctor and an independent neurological consultant before he can return to practice.

The Colts have plenty of time for Hilton to go through the protocol because he was never going to play in Thursday's preseason finale against Cincinnati.

Hilton told McHenry via text message that he feels like nothing is wrong.

"I'm totally fine. I barely got tackled," he said.

Indianapolis opens the regular season Sept. 13 at Buffalo.
