Ravens WR Steve Smith is 'week to week' with back injury

The Baltimore Ravens, amid speculation about Steve Smith's back injury, issued a statement Saturday saying the veteran wide receiver is "week to week."

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the Ravens are unsure about Smith's availability for the team's next game against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 11.

"He's going to be fine," the source said. "Just a little ginger."

Smith was speared in his lower back by Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons late in the third quarter of the Ravens' 23-20 overtime win in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. He did not return to the game, and the Ravens announced the injury as a lower back contusion.

"He does have a back injury," Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said in a statement Saturday. "It is not a surgical issue. His status is currently week to week."
