Safety TJ Carrie out with chest injury suffered while returning punt

The risk of using a starter as a returner has caught up to the Oakland Raiders.

Starting safety TJ Carrie will miss Sunday's home game against AFC West-leading Denver with a chest injury he suffered last week while returning a punt against Chicago.

Carrie left in the second quarter of the Raiders' 22-20 loss to the Bears and did not return.

Larry Asante will start at safety against the Broncos. Carrie did not practice all week.

Earlier this week, Oakland coach Jack Del Rio said he didn't think any of his injured players will be out for the long term.

Starting defensive tackle Justin Ellis is also out for Sunday's game. He played at Chicago after missing two games with an ankle injury. He aggravated the injury in practice Thursday. C.J. Wilson will start for Ellis.

Backup defensive lineman Denico Autry is out with a concussion and kick returner Taiwan Jones will miss his second straight game with a foot injury. Roy Helu and Marcel Reece will likely return kicks for Jones and rookie standout receiver Amari Cooper is in line to return punts with Carrie out even though that means Oakland runs the risk of losing another frontline starter.

Receiver Michael Crabtree (ankle) and running back Latavius Murray (shoulder) are among those listed as probable to face Denver.
