Bills add IK Enemkpali to 53-man roster, place RB Cierre Wood on IR

NFL, Buffalo Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills added defensive end IK Enemkpali to their 53-man roster Monday and placed running back Cierre Wood (ACL) on injured reserve.

The NFL granted the Bills a one-week roster exemption for Enemkpali last week, which is standard procedure for a player returning from a suspension. Enemkpali began the season serving a four-game NFL suspension for punching Geno Smith in August, breaking the New York Jets quarterback's jaw.

Bills coach Rex Ryan, who coached Enemkpali last season with the Jets, believes Enemkpali can add depth behind starting defensive ends Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes, who each played 97 percent of the snaps in the Bills' win Sunday over the Tennessee Titans.

"He'll be a DPR [designated pass-rusher]-type guy and probably contribute on special teams," Ryan said, adding that Enemkpali can keep Williams and Hughes fresher.

Wood was carted to the locker room in the second quarter of Sunday's game with a knee injury. Although he had a minimal role in the Bills' offense, Wood's injury is another blow to a Bills backfield that has been without LeSean McCoy (hamstring) and Karlos Williams (concussion).

Boobie Dixon and Boom Herron are currently the only healthy running backs on Buffalo's roster. Ryan did not have an update on McCoy's or Williams' statuses Monday, saying the Bills will see how their condition progresses throughout the week.

Wood carried twice for 3 yards in Sunday's game before being injured.
