FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan hopes quarterback Tyrod Taylor is able to play this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs after Taylor suffered an apparent shoulder or upper chest injury in the second half of Monday night's 20-13 loss to the New England Patriots.
Taylor remained in the game but was seen frequently grabbing the inside of his shoulder pad. The team did not make Taylor available to reporters after the game.
Ryan said he had "no idea" if Taylor will be ready for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, adding, "I hope he's ready."
Ryan said on WGR 550 on Tuesday "I expect (Taylor) to be able to play."
"We all know it's a right shoulder thing," he added. "I don't know the particulars of what they call things or whatever. If we had the technical terms on it, you guys wouldn't know it either. We'll see how the week progresses how everything goes, but I think he'll be ready to roll."
Taylor missed two games last month with a knee injury he suffered in a comeback win over the Tennessee Titans; he also finished that game before being limited in practice in the ensuing days.
EJ Manuel, who started in Taylor's place in losses to the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars, briefly warmed up on the sideline Monday night.
"I asked [Taylor] at the end of the game, and he goes, 'No, Coach, I'm ready to go,'" Ryan said. "Because I was gonna go with EJ."
Taylor attempted several deep passes later in the game, showing little sign of injury.
"He threw a deep pass actually over Sammy [Watkins'] head on that one, so it looked like he had plenty of arm strength, or I wouldn't have put him out there," Ryan said. "But we'll certainly make sure he's OK."
