Montee Ball arrested after alleged hotel dispute with girlfriend

Former Wisconsin and Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball has been arrested on a felony battery charge after an apparent dispute with his girlfriend.

Madison, Wisconsin, police spokesman Joel DeSpain says officers were called to a downtown hotel around 3:45 a.m. Friday. A woman told police she and Ball were arguing when he threw her in the air. She said she landed on a table and cut her leg, requiring stitches.

DeSpain says Ball told police he pushed the woman and she fell. DeSpain says Ball cooperated with officers.

Jail records show Ball, 25, remained in custody Friday afternoon.

Ball spent most of this past season out of football before being signed to the New England Patriots' practice squad in December. He is no longer with the team.

In Denver, Ball dropped from No. 2 on the depth chart to No. 4 in the final weeks of the preseason before being waived by the Broncos before the season started.

A second-round draft selection in 2013, Ball opened last season as a Broncos starter but ultimately appeared in just five games as a groin injury sidelined him.
