Ravens RB Trent Richardson will undergo knee scope

Baltimore Ravens running back Trent Richardson will need arthroscopic surgery on his knee, according to a team source.

Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 draft, was out of the league entirely all of last season. He has averaged 3.3 yards per carry during his time with the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.

The Ravens signed Richardson in April, but then missed the first full week of offseason practices in May with a hamstring injury. He participated in organized team activities earlier this month.

The team will not practice again until training camp opens on July 28.

Richardson faces an uphill battle for playing time when he returns. He is competing in a crowded Baltimore backfield that includes Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Kenneth Dixon and Terrance West.
