Jets acquire Jiri Tlusty from Canes

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Winnipeg Jets acquired winger Jiri Tlusty from the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday in exchange for two draft picks.

The Jets gave up a third-round pick in 2016 and a conditional sixth-rounder in 2015 in the deal. If the Jets make the playoffs, Carolina would get their fifth-round pick instead of the sixth-rounder.

Tlusty, who has 13 goals and 10 assists this season, gives the Jets some depth they were lacking due to a number of injuries.

The Jets also announced they have put forward Blake Wheeler on injured reserve.

The 26-year-old Tlusty had tallied 76 goals and 69 assists in 322 games with Carolina over parts of six seasons. His career highs of 23 goals and 38 points came during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

Winnipeg hosts St. Louis on Thursday, while Carolina hosts Washington on Friday.
