Blues acquire D Zbynek Michalek

NHL, St. Louis Blues, Arizona Coyotes

The St. Louis Blues acquired rental defenseman Zbynek Michalek from the Arizona Coyotes prior to Monday's NHL trade deadline.

Arizona received prospect Maxim Letunov and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2015.

Michalek was regarded as one of the top trade targets among the pending unrestricted free agents, though his current status may have given some teams pause.

Michalek has been out for over two weeks with an upper-body injury and last played in a game on Feb. 14. The draft pick acquired by Arizona is contingent upon whether Michalek returns from the injury, according to reports.

"We would like to thank Zbynek for all his contributions to the Coyotes over the years," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said. "Z is a fierce competitor and a great person and we wish him all the best in the future."

The Coyotes have been one of the most active teams at the deadline, partnering up with the New York Rangers in a massive, multiplayer deal that sent defenseman Keith Yandle to New York. Arizona also dealt top rental center Antoine Vermette to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Michalek, 32, has two goals and eight points in 53 games with the Coyotes this season.
